In the North (Mainland)

1. AMINETEON
Close to the Yugoslavian border in a height of about 6000 metres, the most northern vine hills of Greece are situated. Particularly, the grape Xynomavro thrives here. In this height, it matures late; therefore, the red wine from Amynteon is relatively tart.

2. GOUMENISSA
A hot-blooded, dry red wine of high quality is being produced around the small town of Goumenissa. The producer Boutari as Cuvée de Prestige, a branded wine of excellent quality, offers it.

3. NAOUSSA
Powerful and spicy herb, is the red wine from the area Naoussa, which ranks among the best ones of Greece. Here – at the eastern slopes of the mountain Vermio – reigns a microclimate, which has a beneficial effect on the quality of the grapes.

4. COTES DE MELITON
On the peninsula of Sithonia a multitude of vines thrive, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, but also domestic varieties like Xynomavro, Limnio or Roditis. The white wines Blanc de Blancs and Grand vin as well as the red Domaine Porto Carras, Chateau Carras and Cava Carras (a top level wine), are remarkable.

5. ZITSA
Only here, in the North-West of Greece, the vine variety Debina (also: Dembina or Ntempina) is being cultivated. This quality wine is dry, hot-blooded, and excellent as a pearl wine.

6. RAPSANI
The quality cultivation area Rapsani, is situated at the foot of the Olymp. Its dry red wine is being made from the vine varieties Krassato, Stavroto and Xynomavro.

7. ANKIALOS
The white Roditis and Savatiano as well as the red variety Sykotis are cultivated in at the Gulf of Volos. From Roditis, dry quality wines are produced, but also Retsina.

In the South (Mainland)

8. ROBOLA VON KEFALLINIA
From the ionic islands originates the famous Robola of Kefalonia. It ranks among the best and most expensive wines of Greece – full-bodied and fruity with the scent of lemons and the spice of herbs. Also outstanding are the red liqueur wine Mavrodaphne of Kefalonia and the white Muscat. Both can match with the liqueur wines from Patras.

9. PATRAS
From the North of Peloponnes originate three excellent liqueur wines: the Mavrodaphne, dark red and of delicate sweetness, the white Muscat of Patras, noble sweet and fruity, and the white Muscat Rion Patras from the aromatic grape Moskato Aspro. Also Patras, one of the best white wines of Greece from the grape variety Roditis, is produced here.

10. NEMEA
Nemea is one of the best red wine areas of Greece. Fine and elegant are its wines, excellent their quality. Remarkable is particularly “Herkulesblut“ by the cooperative Herkules.

11. MANTINA
Light and dry is the white wine, which is produced in the centre of Peloponnesian. This quality wine tastes best when it is drunk young.

12. KANTZA
The white Kantza is the only quality wine from the middle of Greece. It originates from a subarea of Attika and results from the grape variety Savatiano. Kantza should be enjoyed young.

The islands

13. LIMNOS
In the plains of the island Limnos, thrive two exquisite wines: the Muscat of Limnos, an excellent white sweet wine from the grape Moscato Alexandrias. The golden yellow white wine that is made from the Moscato Aspro grape is characterised by its nutmeg bouquet and its nutmeg taste. .

14. SAMOS
Samos is famous for its sweet, white Muscatel, from the grape Moscato Aspro. It ferments for five years in oak barrels. In addition to that, there is also a simple, sweet liqueur wine, to which fresh must is being added. Also light white wines thrive in Samos.

15. PAROSO
In the Aegean island Paros, the grape Mandilari is planted, which creates a dry red wine. From the Monemvasia, a pleasant white wine is produced.

16. SANTORINI
The most known Aegean island Santorin is famous for its white wines. Dry and acid accentuated are the quality wines, moreover, they are characterised by a good tenability. From Santorin originate also three sweet, white liqueurs.

17. RHODOS
Fruity sweet is the Muscat of Rhodos, typical for its light touch of honey. The alcohol content of this quality wine is due to the natural process of fermentation. But also obliging red and white quality wines originate from Rhodos.

18. SITIA
In the East of Crete, the little productive grape Liatiko is planted. A red quality wine is created from it, which is stored up to eight years in wood barrels. The noble sweet red liqueur wine of the same name is brilliant.

19. PEZA
Fine and elegant is the red wine from Peza. This dry quality wine is made from the grape varieties Kotsiphali and Mandilaria. From Peza originates also a white quality wine of the variety Vilana.

20. DAPHNES
In Crete, close to Knossos and Phaistos, a dry red wine and a noble sweet red liqueur wine is produced. Both are made from the domestic grape variety Liatiko.

21. ARCHANES
In Crete, an excellent red wine is produced: Archanes. The dark red, heavy wine is made from the grape varieties Kotsiphali and Mandilaria. It is characterised by a good tenability.
